Professional Biography

Caroline Ebby is a senior researcher at the Consortium of Policy Research in Education (CPRE) and an Adjunct Associate Professor in Teaching, Learning & Leadership at the Penn Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania. She has extensive experience bridging the worlds of university-based research and school-based practice in mathematics education. Her research focuses on the use of formative assessment to improve mathematics instruction, creating and sustaining professional learning communities focused on analysis of student learning, and using real-world contexts to enhance student learning. At CPRE, she is working on an experimental research project and intervention that links instructional practice to instructional performance and developing an assessment of teacher's ability to interpret student work. In addition, she teaches mathematics methods and assessment courses in the elementary education program, provides mathematics professional development for teachers in K-8 schools and co-directs a middle school mathematics curriculum development project.
