Abigail Gray: Piloting Promising Practices in the School District of Philadelphia (SDP)
Congratulations to Abigail Gray, Ph.D., on Stoneleigh Fellowship
The Consortium for Policy Research in Education is pleased to congratulate CPRE Senior Researcher Abigail Gray (University of Pennsylvania) on her recently announced Stoneleigh Fellowship [https://stoneleighfoundation.org/apply/stoneleigh-fellowship/]. The Stoneleigh Fellowship identifies and supports practitioners, researchers, and advocates to advance reforms in the systems that serve at-risk youth. Abigail's three-year fellowship is entitled Piloting Promising Practices in the School District of Philadelphia (SDP). Her work will focus on increasing the district's capacity to identify, pilot, evaluate, and scale up initiatives to improve school climate.
Abigail's Fellowship will build on her track record of successfully partnering with SDP to produce timely, actionable research on issues of pressing concern to educators. Her most recent work in this area is highlighted in a new report, Discipline in Context: Suspension, Climate, and PBIS in the School District of Philadelphia [https://repository.upenn.edu/cpre_researchreports/106/] (Gray et al., 2017), based upon a two-year research study of the disciplinary practices and climate of SDP schools serving K-8 students. The research was funded by a grant from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) of the U.S. Department of Justice.
Through a second, $3 million NIJ-funded grant that begins in Spring, 2018, Abigail and her CPRE research team will collaborate with SDP and other partners to implement the recommendations of the report. - Jonathan Supovitz, CPRE Director
