Shani Bretas is currently a Research Assistant at the Consortium for Policy Research in Education and a PhD Candidate in Education Policy at Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research interests include standards and accountability reforms and teacher preparation and retention. Prior to beginning her PhD program, Shani spent eight years as a high school history teacher and testing coordinator for the New York City Department of Education. She holds a B.S. in Secondary Education and History from Vanderbilt University and an M.A. in Education Policy from Teachers College.
